How to Get Rid of Washing Machine Smell?

Having washing machine smell problems? You are not alone. This is not the first time you will encounter washing machine smell. In fact, if you do not know how to take good care of your washer, the smell will persist relentlessly.

One huge reason why a washing machine stinks is because of bacteria. When you leave your washer with considerably moisture inside, bacteria tends to thrive and flourish. This is why it smells a bit musky-like wet clothes placed in a closed container far too long.

Here are some ways for you to get rid of the smell:

Step 1: Right after washing, remove the excess moisture. If you are using a front load washer, chances are, the drainage system is not that impeccable. There is still considerable moisture left.

After using it, make sure the inside is dry by wiping it with a clean towel. Make sure you have wiped every nook and cranny clean and that the corners are all dry. You might also want to inspect the filters and see if there are anything stuck in it that may obstruct the flow of water. Once there are lint collections, get rid of it so as not to disrupt the drainage flow.

Step 2: Open the door Leave the tub door open especially if you are using a front load washing machine. Let the heat and air from the outside seep in your tub to dry it completely. It prevents the cooped up, musky smell and prevents bacteria from propagating in your washer.

Step 3: Use The Vinegar Trick The vinegar trick is most people's solution to this problem if they want to get rid of the smell pronto. What you need to do is to run an empty hot water cycle. Once, it has filled up with water, add a cup of white vinegar and pause it for a while. Let the vinegar penetrate so that its effects are better. Resume the cycle after a few minutes to wash off the smell.

Step 4: Lemon Juice The lemon juice trick can be used as a substitute to vinegar. Use it the same way you would use your vinegar. Juice a cup of lemon and add it to an empty hot water cycle. The lemon juice should freshen up your washer in no time.

Step 5: Baking Soda This kitchen ingredient is great not only for the smell but also for washer stains and collected detergent residues. You can scrub the tub using baking soda or just add a whole pack of this ingredient to an empty hot water cycle. This should get rid of the bacteria, stains and detergent residues.
