How to Remove Pungent Foul Smell From Your Front Loader

There are a lot of merits of choosing front load washing machines. Front loaders are more water, detergent and energy efficient. In addition to that, it cleans more clothes than your average top load washing machine.

The downside is, yup you guessed it, the smell. Once you leave your washer for a few days, it will surely develop some sort of a musty smell. Many homeowners admitted doing a lot of drastic measures just so they can get rid of the smell but nothing worked for them.

I'll clue you up on the proper way of freshening your front load washer and you do not need to spend a lot in this cleaning procedure.

Step 1: After using your washing machine, check the passageway of the water to see if anything is clogging it. One of the reasons why a washer stinks is because excess water is cooped up inside. Check if there is something obstructing the flow of water and remove it.

Step 2: Get a package of baking soda and use some to make baking soda paste. Add a bit of water to the baking soda and use this to scrub the walls of your washer's tub. The walls are surely loaded with dirt, grime and detergent residues and these contribute to an awful washer smell. You can also use a toothbrush to make cleaning easier. The baking soda will effectively slough off the stubborn collected dirt and it will freshen it up as well.

Step 3: One your have scrubbed the interior clean, run an empty hot water cycle. This will wash off the baking soda paste and the sloughed off residues. Wait until the hot water cycle finishes.

Step 4: Now that all baking soda residues are gone, run an empty hot water cycle again and add a cup of white vinegar. The vinegar gets rid of lime deposits that may be clogging up the water drainage. Also, it helps get rid of the smell. It will smell like vinegar afterwards but run an empty hot water cycle again until the smell of the vinegar fades away.

Step 5: Dry the inside of the washer using a clean cloth. Make sure there are no damp areas. Check the corners if there are remaining moisture. Leave the door open so air can flow in and dry your tub completely.

After these steps, your washing machine should smell fresh and clean. Do this once a week and you will never have a problem with a smelly washer ever again.
